Frequently Asked Questions | Benson Homes

 ARE YOU LICENSED AND INSURED?

Yes. We're a Class A Contractor in Virginia and carry General Liability and Worker's Compensation Insurance.

IS THERE A CHARGE FOR THE FIRST VISIT?

The initial visit is complimentary!

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE PREPARED FOR THE INITIAL MEETING?

It would be helpful to have a list of the things you do and don't like about your space, as well as any pictures or links to ideas you already have. Don't worry if you don't know where to start, though. That's what our team is here to help you with.

WILL I NEED A PHYSICAL SURVEY AT THE FIRST MEETING?

If you are looking to do an addition or change the exterior footprint of your house, it would be helpful to have a physical survey at the initial consultation.

WHO WILL BE INVOLVED IN MY PROJECT?

We have a team of people including a designer, an architect, and a structural engineer that are all involved as needed for specific projects.

HOW LONG DOES THE DESIGN PROCESS TAKE?

Design is the most important part of the process, so you want to make sure it is well thought out. Design time varies based on individual client needs and the pace they are comfortable with.

WHY SHOULD I USE A DESIGN-BUILD FIRM?

By coordinating design we move from conception to completion more efficiently and practically, which means saving you time, money, and the headache of working with several separate teams.

CAN I LIVE IN MY HOME DURING RENOVATION?

Yes! We work hard to make the process easy on you and your family so your life isn’t interrupted. This may look like sectioned-off rooms with magnetic doors to prevent dust from spreading, setting up a temporary kitchenette, or creating designated entrances and walkways for our workers to provide you with privacy.

CAN YOU REMODEL MY HOME WHILE I’M ON DEPLOYMENT OR AN EXTENDED VACATION?

Absolutely. We have had several clients go on extended vacations, leave on deployment, or buy their home while in a different state or country and move in after the remodel. If that’s the case, we want our clients to have peace of mind that their home is in the best hands.
